→After seven deaths from cyanide-laced Tylenol capsules sold in five Chicago stores, J&J recalled about 31 million bottles at a cost of $100 million. PBS reported that the tampering happened after the product left the factory, yet the company took the loss. Share dropped from 35% to 7%, then recovered to 30% by mid-1983 and 35% by year-end.
